In Episode 4 of our Investor Summit Green Room podcast we enjoy the intelligent and data-driven analysis of the Iraq war and the UK economy which Simon French delivers.

Simon was an economist at the DWP, the Treasury and the Cabinet Office, made the move from public service to the commercial world of Panmure Liberum a dozen years ago and is now Chief Economist and Head of Research there.

In his view the headwinds holding back the otherwise ‘resilient’ UK economy are the highest cost of energy in the developed world, burdensome planning legislation and the many restrictions imposed on our capital markets over the last 30 years –in his terms ‘rationing’. All with legislative fixes which require great political will and political capital which need ‘brave’ Government.

Episode 5, Investor Summit Green Room podcast. Today we welcome Jacqueline Broers, Joint Portfolio Manager at Utilico Emerging Markets.

The Investment Trust invests in the top 60 or 70 high-quality emerging markets infrastructure and utility stocks. This country, sector and stock diversity has led to resilient long-term dividends and capital growth. 

Emerging Markets offer strong underlying growth, whilst infrastructure and utilities investments offer defensive stability and long term earnings.

For the last decade UEM have paid a progressive dividend with an attractive yield, currently at 3.7% and are looking to provide investors with the best long term total return. UEM is in the FTSE 250 and has a market cap of just over £500M.
