We held the inaugural Investor Summit on 13th of August in the City of London. When curating the conference content it was important to us to provide our Private  Investor/Professional audience not just with the most up to date investment thinking, but to broaden the summit to include some authoritative and independent financial planning and Inheritance Tax advice.
 
We recruited the fabulous freelance financial journalist and FT Money columnist Moira O’Neill for the task, and together we created a panel to delve into the Inheritance Tax changes lined up for 2027: ‘How do the proposed Inheritance Tax changes affect you?’

Our panel included Nimesh Shah, CEO, Blick Rothenberg, a leading tax advisory firm, Malvee Vaja, a financial planner from Rathbones Group and Lindsay Cook, a highly experienced personal finance journalist. 

Many investors aim to accumulate sufficient wealth to retire early, so our second panel focused on: ‘Investing to Retire Early’. Our excellent panel included Helen Morrisey, Head of Retirement Analysis at Hargreaves Landsdown, Malvee Vaja again, and Craig Rickman, Personal Finance Editor at interactive investor.

Which is why Sam Bell, the Summit Co-founder,  pushed hard for a panel discussion covering what we called ‘The Rise of Retail’: the persistent lack of retail investor participation in the UK’s investment landscape. 

Compared to markets like the US and the Nordics, the UK is decades behind in building a true culture of personal investing. Robert is joint Portfolio Manager at the CQS Natural Resources Income and Growth Fund, and he has worked in this field for many years.

What interests us about the CQS Investment Trust is that it is focused on global mining and energy stocks, and it has a flexible mandate. Currently the Trust is overweight physical gold producers and has performed well recently. The share price is currently near an all-time high.

We were joined at the Investor Summit on 13th August by the senior team from RetailBook, a FinTech platform that connects publicly listed companies raising capital, with retail investors. 

RetailBook say they exist ‘to enable broader retail participation in primary capital market transactions like IPOs and bond offerings’. 

The business was originally conceived by leading broker/marketmaker Peel Hunt,  then launched as a separate entity in 2022; the core team came from Primary Bid.
